191E - November too

Right, I've pulled myself by my hair out of that pit from the previous post (190) and will resume my chatty posts about the seasons and my gardens. Yes, you may sigh with relief.

The asters are still going strong
It helped, enormously, that I had planned something nice for every day of the past week.
Went to the cinema, coffee, to Donner (the largest and greatest bookshop in Rotterdam), more coffee, to Intratuin (a huge garden centre), oceans of coffee and gave in to my plantaholicism
(bought a gorgeous philodendron) and Friday evening I visited a jolly foodmarket for Vluchtelingenwerk (an organisation which supports refugees) in Vierpolders, to try 6 traditional dishes from 6 of the 12 participating countries. Unfortunately I had no more room for the other 6, as everything was delicious. RenĆ©e has climbed out of that pit again, yay!
Comfort food!
In the meantime the weather has turned to typical November weather, hasn't it? Chilly, grey, greyer and so foggy in the mornings that I was scared out of my boots by a cyclist that I took for a tree. Puck did her little lunge, that is her way to tell him not to get any ideas, she will protect me.

My veggie planters and trelisses are empty now. I am looking forward to spring already, as my tomatoes and cucumbers there were a great success. For now the Pelargoniums are going strong, only a little slower and with less blooms. The cyclamen is also looking wonderful.
Empty planters, but feisty plants

The Erigeron, still lovely
Look at my Erigeron, it is doing great! After years of losing my seedlings, this is a good feeling. In Hunky Dory the young plants have taken well too, so they will make a lovely combination with the English lavender next year, in the circle around my small Malus tree.

Hunky Dory was very quiet yesterday. She's had a pretty tough gardening year. First she was flooded (which cost me a lot of my bulbs, I'm sad to say), then she was rained on for months on end, next it turned tropical and bone dry and finally September and October were just the way she liked it: not too dry, not too warm. Besides the still flowering Asters, Gaura, Salvia and Verbena Bonariensis the grasses are absolutely gorgeous.

It is winter now, so there will be not as much to tell about my gardens. Therefor I will post once a month until the bulbs are showing themselves. So I will see you in December!
(Oh, am busy painting my Christmas cards...old-school, me!)
Have a lovely weekend! RenƩe

  2. Thanks again!
Try to give in to your creative urges, they are good for your mental health. A crinkly handcrafted tree sounds good to me. Go on, I dare you šŸ˜Ž
