Ik ben een gezegend mens, dat is een ding dat zéker is.
Wat? Ik hoor t je denken. Jij hebt toch die rotbreuk en kan niks?Klopt.Maar deze ellende heeft me weer met mijn neus op de feiten gedrukt: ik heb het enorme voorrecht mensen om me heen te hebben die bereid zijn me te helpen.De ene schildervriendin komt me opvrolijken en neemt en passant even mijn balkonbakken onder handen. De andere schildervriendin gaan nog één stapje verder en poot nieuwe planten in de uitgebloeide bakken. De derde laat een week mijn hond uit en verleent hand- en spandiensten. Een ander doet boodschappen en speelt taxichauffeur. Weer anderen doen ook een rondjehondje. En gisteren heeft weer een ander mijn moestuin bezocht en emmers vol groenten geplukt.Uiteraard zou ik hetzelfde voor hun doen, maar ( en nou komt het) dat weten zij dus niet, want de gelegenheid om dat te demonstreren was er nog nooit. En precies dat maakt dat ik me gezegend voel.

I am blessed, that is certain!
You what? I can hear you thinking. Aren't you the one with the nasty fracture, unable to do a thing?
That's right.
But all this shit has made one issue perfectly clear: I have the enormous privilege to have people around me who unselfishly help me.
One painting club friend comes round to cheer me up and meanwhile dead-heads my balcony plants. Another goes even further and replaces my sad nasturtiums with lavender. A third walks my dog and cleans my flat. Another does the shopping and drives me to the hospital. Others also walk Puck. And yesterday yet another visited my allotment and harvested buckets full of veg.
Obviously I would do the same for them, but (and here it is) they cannot know that, because the opportunity to demonstrate this simply never arose yet. And that is exactly why I feel blessed.
